Living My Legacy Now!: Kimberly Goodloe, American Heart Ambassador

I have been connected with Kimberly Goodloe on LinkedIn for over a year. During this period, she has shared with me her journey as a Heart Disease Survivor and as an American Heart Association Ambassador.
Kimberly is originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee. She resides in Atlanta, GA with her husband of 20 years, Victor and their two children, son AJ who's in the 9th grade, and daughter, Mariah who's in the 6th grade. After all of our emails during the past year, I was excited to finally get to speak to her and have her share her story with the Grow Forward & Flourish community.
Q1:What experience(s) led up to your work as an American Heart Association Ambassador?
Kimberly: On February 12, 2009, I had open heart surgery. A few days later, I had to undergo additional surgery for a pacemaker. A year later, my doctor discovered that my pacemaker wasn't working as well as it should, so I had a pacemaker revision surgery to correct the problem.
Q2: Why were these experiences ins…

Interview: Brené Brown, Author of Daring Greatly

In my quest to share ideas that will educate, encourage and empower the Grow Forward & Flourish community, I'm constantly searching for ideas to share.  Recently, I discovered an interview on empowerlounge.com of Brené Brown, author of the New York' Time Best-seller, Daring Greatly.  This is only part of the interview. You can check out the rest of it on empowerlounge.com website.Your new book, Daring Greatly, has such a powerful call to action behind it. What was the inspiration behind the book + what can we do to Dare Greatly? I was at a hard time in my career. There was a part of me that was unknowingly working very hard to engineer staying small to avoid criticism and judgement. I also had a breakdown or spiritual awakening when I realized I was not living what I preached. Then I came across this passage from Theodore Roosevelt’s speech, Citizenship in a Republic. This is the passage that made the speech famous: “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points …

Procrastination Diet: Week 3 Update

This week's Procrastination Diet directed my attention to initiating the process of developing relationships with other small business owners in Columbia, SC and surrounding areas.

At the beginning of this year, I made a commitment to reach out to small business owners. I've had a lot of success on LinkedIn, however there are some aspects of doing business that I prefer to do the old-fashion way, face to face.

You're probably thinking, "In this time of social media influence and reach, why would someone prefer to do business face to face?".

That's a concern of a business mentor. As he helps me develop a business strategy for marketing the informational products I want to make available online in the next 18 months, he feels that I might be stretching myself too thin trying to stick to my plan of networking with a purpose "x" amount of times a month. Right now, I feel confident that I can pace myself and still meet my quarterly goals in that time frame.…

10 Quotes on Intuition

Here's some food for thought on intuition.

Intuition is the clear conception of the whole at once.  Johann Kaspar Lavater

Intuition becomes increasingly valuable in the new information society precisely because there is so much data.  John Naisbitt

You must train your intuition - you must trust the small voice inside you which tells you exactly what to say, what to decide. Ingrid Bergman

Intuition comes very close to clairvoyance; it appears to be the extrasensory perception of reality.   Alexis Carrel

Intuition is the clear conception of the whole at once. – Johann Kaspar Lavater

I Am...A Dreamer

“Your vision becomes clear when you look inside your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.”
~Carl Jung~

In my post, "Don't Let Anybody Talk You Out of Your Dreams!" I wrote, "Our happiness is directly influenced by the level of the progress we are making in life." WE are divinely designed to learn, grow and expand our consciousness and ways of being. We be our best, do our best, and live our best when we are growing and flourishing in life.
Besides major challenges and adversity, it is my belief that much of the unhappiness we experience in our day to day life comes down to our choice to settle for the "status-quo" while we dreams in our heart beckoning us to do something about them. When we settle for "what is", yet,we desire better, we are resisting our divine nature to learn all that we can learn, be all that we can be and do all that we have the power to do to achieve our aspirations.
From time to time, all of us hit …

I AM...Grateful

"For each new morning with its light, For rest and shelter of the night, For health and food, for love and friends, For everything Thy goodness sends." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Gratitude is a mental attitude that can change your life. It is a such a powerful way of being, living and embracing life. Having a grateful heart opens our eyes and minds to what matters to life, keeping us from the fatal mistake of taking that which we truly value for granted.
When I consider my humble beginnings and how my faith in God and even my lack of faith in God during various seasons of my life has led me to the path in which I am on, I can only be grateful. For it has been this path that is showing me who I was destined to be all the time, I just needed to awaken and embrace it wholeheartedly. It is my hope and prayer that as a member of the Grow Forward & Flourish community or just a visitor that you find  an encouraging and empowering word here that strengthens your resolve to become all th…
